056) 01.06.07 Argumentix + Kitty Midwife collab, w/ Ghost to Falco, Me Con, Yellow Swans, Behalf, The Better to See You With, Scout Niblett, Rabbits, Mustaphamond, Shaky Hands, Fleshtone, Show Me The Pink, 31 Knots (all PDX) Huge all day showcase of great Portland bands from a bunch of different styles and genres. Was flattered that I got to play. Kitty and I played early on and that was great because I don't think I would have been able to play well after sitting through so many bands. Yellow Swans ruled and so did The Better to See You With and I really liked Scout Niblett's set but did not like the drum playing she had accompanying. Was a pretty weird social scene of constant run-ins with people I kinda know but haven't seen in forever. After a bit, I had to hide because I couldn't handle it anymore. --------------------------------------- 055) 12.30.06 w/ Inca Ore (PDX/OAK), Ocean Beach (PDX), Chip Tankgirl (Chico, CA) The funny thing about this show was that it was set up without me knowing about it until about two days beforehand by my friend Daniel seeing a flyer downtown and asking me about it. Also my band name was spelled "Arguementrix" and so I thought it was a practical joke when I saw the flyer. But no joke, after some text-message inquiries discovered that Ocean Beach was a new super group of Gabe from Yellow Swans, Liz (Grouper), and Zach of Ghosting. They played some beautiful and heavy guitar drone with a touch of pop layered in the wash. Very excellent like a purified My Bloody Valentine. This set was basically as my alter-ego, Stab at God and I'd say it was just OK. A little less focused than I would like and I had a hard time hearing myself without monitors. I pissed off some people (booed even!) for talking some shit about James Brown. My friend Chip was on tour and did some stand up comedy that was pretty funny. --------------------------------------- 054) 12.17.06 w/ God Willing (LA), Vegan Murderers (LA), Unnecessary Surgery (LA), Bacteria Cult (LA), Beach Balls (LA) It was amazing to haul ass down to LA with Dead/Bird for this festival. We missed Friday night due to bad weather, but Nick played Saturday with Pulse Emitter, Aaron Dilloway, Tarantism, SIXES, Deep Jew, Unicorn Hard-On and some others. My set was Sunday at breakfast. Was very happy that tik///tik made it to the show and kinda sad that not really many other of my LA friends made it in time to see me play. Whatever, my set ruled. I felt very solid about it. Enjoyed all the other acts I played with and hadn't heard of most of them before except God Willing, who's set was hilarious. --------------------------------------- 053) 11.27.06 ANIMAL WRITES w/ Hans Grusel's Krankenkabinet (SF), Sejayno (Baltimore), Soup Purse (pdx) I am a huge fan of Hans Grusel and was extremely proud and excited to be playing with them. Our set was very loud, kinda violent (I ended up on the floor a few times and am not sure how I got there), and angry. I felt very very angry when we played and the set was catharsis and I felt sufficiently drained after. Sejayno said that we sounded exactly like some other band they had played with on tour and that made me bummed. --------------------------------------- 052) 11.22.06 w/ Adam Gnade (PDX), Ohioan (PDX), LKN (PDX) First time playing at Roturre. The stage was too big for just me and I wish I would have played on the floor. Had trouble hearing myself well in the monitors and lost momentum kinda early. Also everyone was sitting so far away from the stage that it just felt really surreal like I was performing behind glass for scientists to observe. I should have vomited on myself. --------------------------------------- 11.19.06 - One Year of Argumentix live performances --------------------------------------- 051) 11.18.06 w/ Inca Ore (PDX/OAK), Silver Creme (PDX), Red Bird (PDX) One of those magical shows where every band played their best. Was an amazing night of music and friends. A photographer took a fantastic photo of me. Was one of my top 3 best Argumentix performances so far. --------------------------------------- 050) 11.18.06 Argumentix + Paraquat collab w/ many other pdx bands Show started early and I played Foodhole later. Nice sound system. Collaborated with Chris and he was sitting behind me and my bandmate Dan didn't even realize that I was playing with someone and couldn't figure out how I was getting these heavy bass-tones out of my tape player. Minimal set. --------------------------------------- 049) 11.17.06 w/ Critical Theater (PDX), Soup Purse (PDX), Dead/Bird (PDX), Aubrey Birdwell This set went really well for me. It had been well over a month since I had performed alone and had a lot to express to the audience. --------------------------------------- 048) 10.28.06 PDX ARTIX - BURRITO PILLOW w/ Gang Wizard (LA), We Quit (PDX), Smegma (PDX), DRUGS (PDX), Disjunct (PDX), The Barracks of Afghanistan (Salem), Wall of Blubber (PDX/Kelso), Shitty Vibe Smasher (PDX), Kitty Midwife (PDX), Space Hawk (PDX), Deathgleaner (PDX) Was a huge show I currated. Went very well. I had put together a comp of all the bands playing and gave them out for free at the show. Nick played guitar in Burrito Pillow and that was awesome. I mostly sang cuz I couldn't hear my sequencer over the guitar. I like to mostly sing. --------------------------------------- 047) 10.17.06 ANIMAL WRITES w/ KILT (LA), Pulse Emitter (PDX), View (PDX), Wall of Blubber (PDX/Kelso) Was a real treat to have my dad at this show. He said he was proud of me and loved it. Our set went really well and everything else that night sounded great. KILT totally ruled on a whole 'nother level of ruling. --------------------------------------- 046) 10.07.06 w/ Soup Purse (+ collab), Robotic Daly, Paraquat, NKONDI, Moodring, Lord Uncooked, Ifsh, Ergo, Gangster Computer God, Eet (all PDX) Show started in the afternoon and I played with Todd towards the end. I played a bit on my own, then he did too and then we played together and it went really well and naturally. --------------------------------------- 045) 09.24.06 w/ Deep Jew (LA), Gator Surprise (LA) Was supposed to be on performance hiatus, but when Nick Dead/Bird asked if I would play last minute, how could I say no? Deep Jew has some of my favorite LA harshdudes...Jeff Impregnable, Matthew Privy Seals and now from Portland, Gordon Oscillating Innards. They KILLED! and are one of the top best thrash bands ever. I tried out a very new setup and felt like it went well. Concentrated more on playing my sequencer and cassette players and didn't use my sampler or distortion pedals. No ballads or composed Argumentix "songs". I'd like to explore these ideas more in upcoming Argumentix performances. --------------------------------------- 044) 09.03.06 ANIMAL WRITES w/ Ear Venom (SEA), NINETEENEIGHTYFROG + Vibe Cop collab (PDX), Mattress (PDX) The second Animal Writes performance was good. Bennett and Dan were hilarious and Mattress was kookster and soulful. --------------------------------------- 043) 08.26.06 w/ The Punks (OLY), Twin Crystals (Vancouver, BC), Twin (OLY), Leti Angel(PDX) I felt good about my performance at this show, but overall it was a pretty low-energy night and sorta felt like no one really wanted to be there, including the other bands. I played fourth and the first two bands bailed after they played. Twin Crystals were like The Germs meets dancepunk. I really dug their confusedly confrontational singer with rack delay unit. Would like to play with them again. . --------------------------------------- 042) 08.24.06 Argumentix hour long radio performance on Jennifer Robin's Night of the Living Tongue Showed up and set up my gear really early so I had time to really relax and not have a stressful last-minute performance beginning. Brought a huge set up of numerous tape-players, sequencer and drum machine as well as sampler. It was incredible and very exhausting to perform for an entire hour, but I loved it. One of my closest dearest friends Jane was in town from NY and watched me perform and it was awesome to have her there. Was my fourth time performing on KBOO.. Alarmist, Sex with Girls, Space Hawk and now Argumentix. --------------------------------------- 041) 08.19.06 w/ Argumentix solo set, followed by Argumentix + Squid Baby collab, w/ DJ Maxx Bass (NY), Loyal Mantooth (PDX) Was really sweet of Matty to ask me to perform at his 21st Birthday Party. Wasn't really sure what to expect, but after filling the basement with fog machine smoke and getting a little loose, I raged through a good set. Then Shoosha joined me for an improvised collab entitled "Snakes on a Plane" (we had seen it earlier that evening). I re-enacted a scene from the movie in argumentix-fashion. The samples I prepared wouldn't load but it worked out fine anyway.. --------------------------------------- 040) 08.14.06 w/ Argumentix + Adam Gnade (w/ Ryan) collab, Behalf (PDX) I honestly feel like I wish I could go back in time and somewhat change this performance. It really should have been rehearsed and could have been mountains better, but I did have fun and enjoyed the opportunity to share the stage with Adam and Ryan. Adam Gnade has a really interesting approach to lyrical performance that I totally dig. Our collaboration album is frantic story-telling. Lenny Behalf was absolutely hilarious. I love that guy and the fact that both times I've performed at Tube as Argumentix have been with one of his bands. --------------------------------------- 039) 08.10.06 w/ Argumentix + Dead/Bird as "BURRITO PILLOW", No Age (LA), Soiled Mattress and the Springs (NY), Corpsekisser (PDX), The Thermals (PDX) I was anticipating this show being kinda strange, as it was a secret show for The Thermals, who are certainly one of Portland's bigger indie bands and performed the next night opening for Sleater-Kinney's last (pre 20 year reunion tour) show. Nick and I played first and I feel ecstatic about our performance... slow, kinda long, creepy, with really exciting explosions. Sadly, the recording didn't come out that great, but we're talking about practicing and recording the song. It would make a great release. No Age is Dean and Randy from Wives new strange trashy pop band. I didn't really know what to expect beyond disappointment that Wives was no longer a band, but shit.. I loved No Age! They sounded like what I dream that a band like Sebadoh should sound like live. Corpsekisser were fun to watch and they are exploring some unique musical ideas that kept me delighted. The Thermals playing seemed just a touch anti-climatic and it seems that too many people found out they were playing as the crowd was sparse during their set. That Hutch is a character; he's talented and has an interesting voice. I think I understand why people like that kind of music, its very energetic, yet not uncomfortable.. --------------------------------------- 038) 08.09.06 ANIMAL WRITES w/ Toxic Loincloth (LA), Kevin Shields (LA), ExJesus (LA), Privy Seals (LA), Sleeping with the Earth (PDX) My new band with Shoosha and Dan Rizer, after appropriate amount of practice, we nailed our first set of industrial hardcore noise punk band confusion. all other acts were amazing. I almost got in a fight after the show with a yuppie and someone did get in a fight during out set with this annoying queen dude who kept harrassing all the bands. --------------------------------------- 037) 08.05.06 Argumentix + The Sunken (Kelso) + IDX1274 (thewoods) collab as "Insane Clown Pussy", Eraritjaritjaka (EUGENE), Dead/Bird (PDX), Sisprum Vish (PDX), NKONDI (PDX), Robotic Daly (PDX), I Died (EUGENE), Co(sine) (PDX), JM Ginsberg (EUGENE), View (PDX), The Barracks of Afghanistan (SALEM), Blowupnihilist (VANCOUVER,WA)Cracked Dome (Kelso), Pulse Emitter (PDX), WARNING BROKEN MACHINE (EUGENE), Chickenhead vs. Novatron (SEATTLE), Suicidal Tendons (Kelso) Really fun full day of music. Everyone sounded way on top of their game. I had a paranoia freakout during NKONDI's set, thought the operatives were drugging our subculture and setting the world up for total destruction. Calmed down later, closed the night with Tyler, Matt and GI for a ridiculous noise harsh noise set with plenty of wrestling. The first set I've ever done without a delay pedal. Proud accomplishment. Hopefully there will someday be an Insane Clown Pussy release. --------------------------------------- 036) 08.04.06 w/ Truck Truck Truck Truck Ocelot (PDX), Jesus Burger (PDX), Virgin Mary (PDX) Always wondered about this totally separate noise scene in portland who's shows I would see listed but had not seen or met. I figured "Oh I'll get to the show and actually know everyone." Not the case at all. My old Spacehawk bandmates Michael and Sarah were Truck..., Nice to play with them. Show was pretty weird and sparse but I had a great time playing and Keira said it was one of the best performances of mine she had seen and she's the most critical person I've met. Jesus Burger is an interesting and good band. --------------------------------------- 035) 07.24.06 w/ Abe Vigoda (LA), Municpal Waste (Richmond, VA), Deadfall (SF), Hellshock (PDX) Playing with a popular Thrash band to a bunch of grumpy crusty punx should be about as fun as hanging out in an internet chat room, but I managed to make the best of the experience. My performance felt intense and confrontational, but probably felt it more inward than the close-minded arm-crossers. Abe Vigoda are my homies so I didn't have to go it alone. I don't think the other bands wanted to talk to me. It's very strange when I play a show with unfriendly other bands, makes me very happy that there is a strong and supportive noise community. --------------------------------------- 034) 07.13.06 Sponsored by KPSU w/ This Song is a Mess, But so am I... (Los Angeles), Gates of Xares (pdx), Bloodhag (seattle) I've come to feel so comfortable at the foodhole that its like being in my studio at this point and so I have no fear of failure or looking bad. I was really happy with my ballads and had mixed feelings about some of my improvised parts and I believe my cassette player is kaput as it stopped working during the show and ate one of my favorite tape loops, but fuck it. Freddy (This Song) totally stole the show with his mind-blowing dance moves! YEAH! I Love this Song is a mess, way better goth industrial than I could ever be. Was the first show for Gates of Xares, a band with my friend Josh who I had a band with for a very short while before doing Argumentix full time. They were way rocking! --------------------------------------- 033) 07.11.06 w/ Argumentix + Dead/Bird as "BURRITO PILLOW", Noumena (Columbus, OH), Byron House (Providence), Blue Shift (Providence), Sisprum Vish (pdx) This performance had a really amazing punk energy. Dead/Bird and I had a lot of fun in the pit. I was very drunk. A lot of equipment failure completely due to being drunk, but it was so ungodly loud and hardcore punk that I don't think anyone noticed how gnarly it must have actually sounded. Fuck. Burrito Pillow is so fun, wish we could play a tour or something. Noumena (Aaron, drummer of Sword Heaven) is quite a character. His performance consisted of acrobatics in a kiddie pool outside the foodhole. It was a perfect show night! --------------------------------------- 032) 07.10.06 w/ Argumentix + Tunnels as "Professional Friend", Battleship (Oak), Siberia (PDX), Valley of the Yakima (Brooklyn) The band "Professional Friend" was started by me and my Alarmist bandmate Nick (Tunnels) about three years ago to open for Battleship. Started more as a performance art silly band. We started the night silly getting weird behind the stage with a long cord mic and a transistor radio. We took the stage (in underwear and robes). Nick played guitar, bells and sang. I played just a microcassette recorder and mic through delay. Somehow it quickly became a very intense, drowney, dark set. Meghan recorded the set and is putting it out on her tape label. --------------------------------------- 031) 07.03.06 w/ Argumentix + Dan Rizer collab as "Special Guest", Glamburger Patty (PDX), Realicide (Cincinnati, OH) With about an hour's decision of collaborating, Dan and I played some gnarly material. I was mostly doing guttural growls and loooping. apparently the upstairs neighbor of valentine's attempted to bribe the guy running valentines's with a dollar to make Dan and I stop making the most awful music he had ever heard. --------------------------------------- 030) 06.29.06 w/ Argumentix + Dead/Bird as BURRITO PILLOW, Haunted Castle (Detroit, MI), Shitty Vibe Smasher (pdx), Ghosting (pdx) Extremely spirited first performance of Burrito Pillow outside the studio. Wanna try something a little different sonically each show but have a strong hardcore punk drive. I sang so rough I had to spit on the floor. Smashed everything inside of me until guts exploded. --------------------------------------- 029) 06.27.06 w/ Oscillating Innards (SD, soon to be PDX), Pedestrian Deposit (LA?/Providence), Suicidal Tendons (Kelso, WA), Glamorous Pathetic We all played extremely loud through Dead/Bird's wonderful PA system and rumbled the downtown blocks. Was an honor to play with Pedestrian Deposit and Osc (again) as they are two of the most talented harsh noise pedal jackers in the scene. A homeless fan even threw down, rocking out just inside the door for the entirety of Ped Dep set. I played OK, probably a performance I will forget. It was really great to play again after taking a month off from playing my songs. --------------------------------------- |
028) 06.19.06 w/ Argumentix + WARNING BROKEN MACHINE (Eugene) + Klowd (Sacramento) collab, many other bands Went to Eugene Noise Fest as a spectator and was kindly invited by Don (WBM) to collaborate with him and Klowd. I didn't have my epuipment but Todd, Pat and Nick lent me two delay pedals, a Boss 202 sampler (I'm used to the 303) and a nice little pitch shift/delay pedal and a microphone. I concentrated on singing hardcore punk spasms of chokes and chortles while Klowd droned heavy and WBM scraped and blasted. It RULED. Was reassuring that I don't need my set equipment or plans to be Argumentix. All I need is to be awake. I am Argumentix now. --------------------------------------- 027) 05.24.06 w/ Ghost to Falco (pdx), 2% Majesty (pdx) Of course you know I can never get too much of Eric Crespo or his ghost to falco sailing ship. Always an honor to play with my friend. He unleashed a few new solo songs than was joined by band. Two Percent Majesty tested out some great new songs and took requests, playing "powerboat" per my shouts! That song rules. Fuck, all their songs rule! Two of my favorite portland bands. My set went well and practiced even with my tape player crapping out on me during the first song. Guess the thing isn't meant to be punched and tossed around. --------------------------------------- 026) 05.20.06 w/ Slowdanse (SEA), Pulse Emitter (pdx), Adam Gnade (pdx) A really nice way to spend a Saturday Night. Finally met Adam Gnade after all the nice things he has said about me in the Mercury. His set was really unique and fantastic and as a five piece band, basically doubled the attendance of the show. Pulse Emitter was the best I had seen. Completely monumental. --------------------------------------- 025) 05.09.06 w/ Argumentix + Mattress (pdx) collab, Child Pornography (Riverside), Erebus Nyx and Styx (LA), Mattress (solo) Live collaboration by Mattress and I to celebrate the release of our CD "Echo Scratch Finale" on Oms-B Records. Our set started out a little shaky, but then the power on stage cut out and when we got things going again, the rest of our set was excellent. Rex (mattress)'s opening solo set amazed everyone. --------------------------------------- 024) 05.05.06 w/ Atole (pdx), DND (pdx) Cinco de Mayo celebration. Snuggle-Ups were supposed to play but had to cancel. Enjoyed a touch more confrontational vibe. Audience didn't seem that into my set, but it didn't bother me a bit. --------------------------------------- 023) 04.29.06 w/ Dead/Bird (PDX), Universal Baltimore (SF), Sexual Tourist (OAK), Def and Dum (SF) Every performer knows the feeling well of arriving at a venue and suddenly having a feeling of dread. Both Nick and I had premonitions that the show wouldn't go well, but somehow it ended up being one of the best for both of us in our personal performances. Sexual Tourist played their first show, it was three of the dudes we had been staying with in Oakland. Their set was beyond loud and some of the trashiest abrasive noisy punk I had seen in awhile. Great first show and great guys. Universal Baltimore is one of the more ambitious one-man bands I've seen in awhile, with a wall of speakers, guitar and a drum kit. Wireless headset mic with soft puppet material costume. Scary reverbed vocals. Def and Dum is Shannon and Sarah Bernat of 16 Bitch Pileup throwing some industrial metal cans around the back of their van with a spooky ambient soundtrack. Creative and exciting way to start a show. My set freaked me out and I had to spend some time alone afterwards and I started to cry. SF is an intense place for me to perform after having spent such introspective early 20s there. Sadly, not a single old friend of mine from the city came out to the show, but I still managed to meet 75% of the people in attendance. Out with the old, in with the new. --------------------------------------- 022) 04.28.06 w/ Dead/Bird (PDX), Saccharine Trust (LA), Pump Kinn + D.O.N. (Sacramento) There are a bunch of ways I could describe this show that would make it sound bad, but the truth is that I had a great time anyway. Totally awkward playing in a lecture hall on the campus and strange to have Saccharine Trust on the same bill, but I respect those old weird punk dudes that have persevered making strange music for over 20 years. Chip from Chico (aka Sex with Girls' biggest fan) made the drive with his buddy and it was great to have him there and we got pizza afterwards and watched drunk college kids fight. --------------------------------------- 022) 04.27.06 w/ Dead/Bird (PDX), Abe Vigoda (LA), Silver Daggers (LA) This show marks my fourth time performing at The Smell and the first time that it wasn't with Child Pornography. I spent the day with Justin and Philip of Oms-B label and Your Drugs, My Money band recording a collaboration of all Doors covers. My love for The Doors was satisfied by singing ridiculous styles in a cramped living room of a Hollywood apartment. Show was a little uneventful, but I did a less noisy and more crooning set up on the tall stage. A man named Moya took a bunch of pictures of me performing that came out great. Pretty ready to leave LA, though... --------------------------------------- 021) 04.26.06 w/ Dead/Bird (PDX), Kilt (LA), Oscillating Innards (SD), The Cherry Point (LA) + Bludthirst (LA) collab Absolutely everything about this show rules and Il Corral is my new favorite venue. Finally got to meet Michael Fierstein of Trash Skull and got my 7"s - I think I'm in love with these wonderful platters. Bob from Il Corral and some other amazing dudes opened as Kilt, which featured a live drummer - a rare treat. Osc Innards tore up on the contact cymbals and blasts of painful sonic destruction = TOP NOTCH! D/B ruled the night and I played another aggressive set, going through Nick and Bob's PAs, certainly the loudest I've ever performed and it felt great. Oh, but damn, the best for last: Bludthirst = Evan from Moth Drakula with Heavy Brutal Dark Metal damnation vocals while Cherry Point Phil blasted terrifying sounds. --------------------------------------- 020) 04.24.06 w/ Argumentix + Brian Miller (LA) collab, Dead/Bird (PDX), Oscillating Innards (SD), Birthday Indian (SD), I Treasure Sorcerers During the day, Gordon (Oscillating Innards) took Dead/Bird and I to Tijuana for churros and zebra stripe spray-painted burros. A vendor called Nick "Mr Whiskers" and another offered him a sex massage. The show featured an epic collab with Brian Miller which had some great textures and a punk energy - both video and audio documentation exists. Oscillating Innards ruled the contact miced industrial sink dragged around the floor sounding like glaciers thrashing on the Rocky Mountains in fast forward. Mellow Smegma-vibed noise jam band with no name opened and Gordon + I agreed their name should be "I Treasure Sorcerers". Brian and I were so pleased with our set that we decided we should take our show on the road sometime... perhaps spring 2007. --------------------------------------- 019) 04.23.06 w/ Dead/Bird (PDX), Child Pornography (Riverside), Whitman (Riverside) An honor to play Pixel Palace's last show. Some intense skinheads showed up but apparently left two songs into my set realizing it wasn't their scene. It's good to know that my music makes certain people uncomfortable. My set was decent, my voice getting a bit hoarse after several nights of strain. Wonderful people. --------------------------------------- 018) 04.22.06 w/ Dead/Bird (PDX), Anni Rossi (Val Verde), Brian Miller + Kevin Shields (LA), Rollin Hunt (LA?), Vitamin Wig C (Val Verde) Wow. Soaking up the LA Noise stoked love vibe is always validating of how much time I spend making weird music. A house show far, far from downtown (10 miles north of Valencia = Six Flags Magic Mountain), up a winding mountain one-lane road. Despite this, tons of kids made it out. Wonderful big hearts and a huge feast. Our sounds embraced the mountain and every act was prime. Nick and I both had a mosh pit going and I ended my set mic-less on the floor. Tours are definitely the best times of my life. --------------------------------------- 017) 04.21.06 w/ Dead/Bird (PDX), Runny Dumplings (SF), Xome (SF), Abandon Ship Together (SF) First audienced show of tour. Bob Xome is a master sensei of harsh blasts control and his precision could have kept me entertained for an hour. Runny Dumplings = creepy, whimsical, bit more ambient than Tarantism and right up my alley. Nick and I both had off-nights with our performances and I managed to knock half my gear over and it wasn't in the heat of the moment, just foolish clumsiness. I did manage to keep going despite the obstacles. --------------------------------------- 016) 04.20.06 w/ Dead/Bird, each solo and collab First performance of tour was fairly excellent. KDVS is an unique and supportive radio station that has been playing Argumentix since the first recordings three years ago. I played then Nick played and then we collabed for about ten minutes. --------------------------------------- 015) 04.17.06 w/ Argumentix + Ghost to Falco (Eric only) collab, Snakes (PDX) The nature of live improvised collaborations are fickle, but Eric and I were pleased with our performance. It felt natural and had a great energy. Played with a lot of minimal drone, but with explosive interruptions of spunky punk attitude. Eric played his Korg synth + guitar mostly (as well as a bit of harmonica). We sung a pretty duet. Sadly, I forgot to hand someone my camera and the set wasn't recorded so its left as a wonderful memory only. --------------------------------------- 014) 04.15.06 w/ Th'iss (San Francisco), Ghost to Falco (PDX), We Quit! (PDX) Extreme good times with almost all friends or acquaintances in attendance. My level of drunkeness probably made for a low quality vocal performance but the energy was frantic. Also of note: was Eric Crespo's birthday and after the show we went to his house and watched Teenwolf. --------------------------------------- 013) 03.29.06 w/ An Albatross (Philly, PA), We Quit (PDX), Macaw (Boise), Moto Photos (Boise) Family reunion! Was really awesome to see and play with An Albatross again. Such a talented and amazingly tight rock band. Probably my biggest audience yet, and many were younger people who didnt seem to know what to make of my performance. Had AA on the side yelling out encouragement that got me amped. Was asked many times after I played where I was from. A very comfortable, fun, and well-executed performance. Lloyd of Foodhole did sound and he made me sound big, loud, and epic. It means a lot to have a sound guy that gives a shit in charge. Thanks! --------------------------------------- 012) 03.24.06 w/ Gowns (LA), Anni Rossi (LA) The night started rough as my friend Craig (Slowdanse) was supposed to play but had an emergency and had to leave right before his set. I played right after that happened and I was a little shooken up but feel good about my performance. Sometimes I'm not sure where to look while I sing or what to do with my arms. Gowns blew me away. Very interesting and strange band. --------------------------------------- 011) 03.18.06 w/ Experimental Dental School (Oakl), Rollerball (PDX) The month leading up to this show I spent a lot of time recording and working on other art things involving Argumentix and didn't really get a chance to practice. I got in a good jam right before the show and it actually went amazingly. Fun show and I had fun performing. I did a long improvised piece called Eyes Without a Face and had some super dramatix on stage including covering my head with a blanket. --------------------------------------- 010) 02.19.06 The Church of Psychedlia - w/ Bonus (Seattle) and White Rainbow (PDX) A pleasant comfortable atmosphere on big stage with amazing sound system. My biggest audience yet. Was a humbling night performing side by side with the overwhelming Bonus and the spiraling epic White Rainbow. --------------------------------------- 009) 02.12.06 w/ Big Digits (Boston), Casy + Brian (Seattle), and Slowdanse (Seattle) After a bomb of a set the night before in Seattle, I was pleased by my set this evening. Slowdanse is Craig from Black Japan's solo project and it was creepy beats and creepier synths and vocals. --------------------------------------- 008) 02.11.06 w/ Big Digits (Boston), Casy + Brian (Seattle), and Bobcats (Seattle) I can only think of one other performance in the history of all the bands and performances I've done could possibly have been worse than tonight's. Couldn't feel the moment and lost the space. --------------------------------------- 008) 02.08.06 w/ The Show is the Rainbow (Nebraska), Big Digits (Boston), Casy + Brian (Seattle), and (?)Burning White Churches (PDX) A doozy of a swooning crooning performance, I pretty much did all ballad style composed numbers and very little improv. I got lost in the performance which felt good but perhaps overdid it a bit on the delay acrobatics. I had never heard The Show is the Rainbow before and their set really impressed me. --------------------------------------- 007) 01.12.06 w/ This Song is a Mess, But So Am I... (LA) Finally felt fully alive and wonderful while performing. Nervousness was traded for catharsis. Boosted my confidence that I can continue to create and make better and better songs. Was wonderful to play with Freddy since he was certainly part of my inspiration to start doing Argumentix live. --------------------------------------- 006) 12.22.05 w/ Silver Daggers (LA), Abe Vigoda (LA), Mikaela's Fiend (seattle), and Veterns (PDX) Felt fortunate to get the chance to play with several bands that I love. Hadn't heard Silver Daggers yet but they totally blew me away. Had played with a couple of the guys old band Sodamn Innsein back in the early Alarmist days. My set was a little rough. Debuted new ballad + old ballad and those were the best parts of my set. Otherwise, it felt a bit unfocused. --------------------------------------- 005) 12.17.05 w/ Dead/Bird (PDX), Under Mountains (PDX), and Yo Cosmos (PDX) Last minute planned free show. Great vibes, had just a little smoke before I played and set was glorious. Favorite. --------------------------------------- 004) 12.14.05 w/ Casy + Brian (seattle), Ikebana (PDX) and Me Con (PDX) Was very lucky to have my friend Dave, who I was inseperable from in my early 20s visiting from Austin. Show felt really good and was the first that I was really proud of the way I projected my musical intentions. --------------------------------------- 003) 11.28.05 w/ Dead/Bird (PDX), Kevin Shields (LA) + Alex Merrill (PDX) collab, Jake Anderson (PDX) + Brian MIller (LA) collab, Anni Rossi (LA) Another last minute planned show that went amazingly well. Plenty in attendance. I did a really nervous agressive set, which I didn't really intend to do. Felt long but was only 12 minutes. Dead/Bird was particularly hypnotizing, Jake Anderson/Brian Miller set was ecstatic and energetic. --------------------------------------- 002) 11.26.05 w/ Argumentix+Brian Miller (LA) collab, Kevin Shields (LA), and Characters (PDX) Brian and I had recorded together in my studio and got so excited we decided to play a show together. Real last minute, all in attendance were the people above + a couple others. Fun family vibe. Characters is/was Alex from Sex with Girls doing solo acoustic singer/songwriter vibe songs. (a recording of the argumentix + Brian Miller live performance is available on the Deluxe Edition of I Am a Cat Lover, Not a Fighter on Deathbomb Arc). --------------------------------------- 001) 11.19.05 w/ Brian Miller/Kevin Shields/Jake Anderson collab (LA/PDX), Dead Moose Head (davis, CA), We Quit! (PDX), and Anni Rossi (LA) What can I say? first show with new project. lots of butterflies, forgot to do about half the stuff I had planned including plugging in my strobe light and setting off the fog machine that Dead Moose Head had offered me. Still, probably the best first show I've played with any of my bands in the past. |

09.08.07 Argumentix + Soup Purse + Crib Slut collab w/ Frozen Body (PDX), Eco Morti (PDX), Soup Purse (PDX), Magnetic Lucifer (WA), ImLooLoo (Vancouver, WA), Robotic Daly (PDX), JM Ginsberg (PDX), Redglaer (PDX) Whoo!! One of my favorite people's birthday celebration. I was technically "on hiatus" and not fully prepared to perform, but I raged it out with Todd and Matt and we had a great time. I jumped on the table and swung my amp around like a gorilla. Sweet! ---------------------------------------
085)
08.17.07 ANIMAL WRITES w/ Rubber-O Cement (SF), Blue Sabbath Black Cheer (SEA), Honed Bastion (PDX), Behalf (PDX), Power Circus (PDX) Our set really came together this night and the audio recording of it sounds great. Everyone else was really good too, particularly Behalf's set. ---------------------------------------
084)
08.11.07 w/ Sisprum Vish (PDX), Brutophilia (BC), The Sunken (Kelso), Hobby Knife (Eugene), Frozen Body (PDX), Dave Kendall (LA), Taskmaster (BC), Rusalka (BC), I Died (Eugene), Spellcaster (Denver), Sick Buildings (BC), Flatgrey (BC), Disjunct (PDX/SEA), The Rita (BC), Eraritjaritjaka (PDX), Oscillating Innards (PDX), Redglaer (PDX), Coastal (BC), Weak Sisters (Denver), The Cathode Terror Secretion (NY), Halflings (NY) Talk about a seriously amazing day of music. Also the most efficient 20-something performance bill I have ever witnessed. Inspiring. Played my "pop" set for a lot of harsh noise dudes and it went over well. Also of note was that there were no Seattle bands performing. ---------------------------------------
083)
08.08.07 ANIMAL WRITES (debut of Alex Hando on sax) w/ T.I.T.S. (SF), Nymph (NY), Sisprum Vish (PDX) First Animal Writes show with Alex playing and also a composed set. Went well, but not quite as well as the silo. Pat's set was amazing. ---------------------------------------
082)
08.03.07 w/ Heart Shark (PDX), Budweiser Sprite (PDX), Mattress (PDX), The Most (Santa Cruz) A fun house show. I like playing shows where there are girls present. ---------------------------------------
081)
07.16.07 w/ Pink Reason (WI), Hue Blanc's Joyless Ones (WI), Tall Birds (SEA) My PDX live debut of my pop set. Went great. Pink Reason was outstanding. I love his record too. ---------------------------------------
080)
07.02.07 PLEASE SAY THE BABY (Argumentix + Kitty Midwife + Alex Hando) w/ Arachnid Arcade (SEA), Redglaer (PDX), Penetration Camp (SEA), Microscopic Suffering (SEA) A little one-off project that ended up giving us reason to invite Alex to be in Animal Writes. Dan was out of town. Was Alex's first time ever performing and he was outstanding. ---------------------------------------
079)
07.07.07 Argumentix + Soup Purse collab w/ Mincemeat or Tenspeed (Philly), Dave Smo___ (Philly), Cars Will Burn (Philly), Domestic Violence (PDX) Todd and I played a somewhat composed set that went better at practice, but still was super fun. The Philly bands made us look like we were struggling though... very focused and inspiring. ---------------------------------------
078)
07.02.07 Noise Divorce (Argumentix + Kitty Midwife collab) w/ Ill Ease (NY), some indie rock trio that goes by the first name of the singer (PDX) Went pretty well. Keira and I really enjoyed watching Ill Ease play. Her songs are great. ---------------------------------------
077)
06.24.07 Argumentix + Deadwhite (OLY) + Soup Purse (PDX) + Hobby Knife (Eugene) + Forest Friends (SEA) Mostly threw a little amp around and electrocuted myself. Really fun. ---------------------------------------
076)
06.23.07 Argumentix solo and collab with Arachnid Arcade w/ La Maison (LA), Your Drugs My Money (LA) I thought that this show was going to go badly, but it ruled. A great surprise when Charlotte showed up and wanted to play together. Arachnid Arcade rules!! ---------------------------------------
075)
06.22.07 Argumentix + Deadwhite w/ Childhood Friends (PDX), White Rainbow (PDX), Plants (PDX), Dead Air Freshners (PDX/OLY/SEA), Cabinet of Natural Curiosities (MT) Met Andy (deadwhite) about an hour before this performance. Had not heard his music before. We set up on opposite sides of the room and could not see each other. Set started out kinda weird because I was having sound issues, but once I figured it out, we soared. I closed with a ballad. ---------------------------------------
074)
06.16.07 Argumentix solo and Noise Divorce performance I debuted a bunch of new pop songs I had been working on for awhile on the radio. I think this could be called the beginning of a new era of Argumentix performance... phase 4, I believe. It went just OK. ---------------------------------------
073)
05.30.07 w/ Sleeping with the Earth, Solenoid, Soup Purse, Eraritjaritjaka Basically, we got a lot of free drinks. My shit got unplugged while I was playing and I gave up because my set was unfocused and kinda terrible. Whoops. Sorry. I just found out a few days ago that Solenoid did our portraits while we were playing and you can find that on flickr. ---------------------------------------
072)
05.18.07 w/ Ghost to Falco, Bird Costumes To be honest, I performed extra well this night because there was a girl I wanted to impress that I met about a half hour before I played. I think it worked! Everyone sounded great this night. Was the tour kickoff show for Ghost to Falco two month goodbyes. ---------------------------------------
071)
05.09.07 Argumentix + Dragging an Ox Through Water collab, w/ Nick Jaina (PDX), Shoeshine Blue (PDX) aka Oops, We did it again. Second time playing the set with Dragging. This time it went extremely well and the recording sounds great too. Have Mercy!! ---------------------------------------
070)
05.05.07 w/ Smegma (PDX), Soup Purse (PDX), Disjunct (PDX), Redglaer (PDX), Redbird (PDX), Jay Blohm (PDX), Dude War (LA/Denver?), Shitty Vibe Smasher (PDX), The Better to See You With (PDX), Behalf (PDX), SCARD (PDX) I consider this the pinnacle of my improvised Harsh Noise experimentation. I really enjoyed the manic rage of this performance and will be releasing the audio soon. It allowed me to feel like I had accomplished the sound I had been working on and can return to the more pop format that I had started with. ---------------------------------------
069)
05.04.07 Argumentix + Dragging an Ox Through Water collab, w/ Team Evil (PDX), At Dusk (PDX) One of those shows you play because you think it would be a good idea to play with some different kinds of bands and are sorta glad you did but end up feeling fairly indifferent. The audience seemed fairly indifferent as well, though they did like the other bands a lot. Mostly I was just really happy that my step daughter got to see me play for the first time since Alarmist played PDX-Pop. She said that our music was her favorite. Brian and I wrote several songs for this set and covered a few of each other's. ---------------------------------------
068)
05.02.07 ANIMAL WRITES w/ To Live and Shave in L.A. (NY?) (plus Honed Bastion and Little Claw), Redglaer (PDX), Little Claw (PDX), Jackie-O Motherfucker (PDX) Amazing night playing with one of my all time favorite bands (TLaSiL.A.). A real honor! ---------------------------------------
067)
04.08.07 Noise Divorce (aka Argumentix + Kitty Midwife), SCARD (PDX), Child Bride (Boston), The Sixth Deer (PDX) Disturbing set. Hard to explain. Extreme sorrow. ---------------------------------------
066)
03.24.07 w/ Emaciator (LA), Privy Seals (LA), Suicidal Tendons (Kelso,WA), Redglaer (PDX), Honed Bastion (PDX) Was so beyond wasted, vomited everywhere. I wasn't on the bill and didn't have any gear but my drunk antics rivaled any set that evening. I was probably the most drunk I've been in a very long time. ---------------------------------------
065)
03.23.07 w/ Privy Seals (LA), Emaciator (LA), Haircut Mountain Transit (LA), Disjunct (PDX), Mood Ring (PDX), Mustaphamond (PDX), Robotic Daly (PDX), Silver Crème (PDX) Improvised and did a stage dive. Way too many bands played. ---------------------------------------
064)
03.16.07 ANIMAL WRITES w/ Trees (PDX), Child Pornography (SF), Okha (PDX), ___ They made a movie about this show. On youtube. ---------------------------------------
063)
03.11.07 w/ Ghost to Falco, Bird Costumes, Dragging an Ox Through Water A very fun show starring the people that live in my house. I did an extremely short, volatile set in my living room. Neat! ---------------------------------------
062)
03.03.07 Argumentix + Budweiser Sprite collab, w/ Yip-Yip (Texas), Yacht (PDX) Don't really remember it. I don't think that we were turned up that loud. Dan and I went and saw Costes after we played and that ruled!!!! ---------------------------------------
061)
02.17.07 Argumentix + Budweiser Sprite collab, w/ Dead Air Freshners (PDX/OLY/SEA), Childhood Friends (PDX) A fun show in what seemed like it would be the most ideal spot to start having every good show in. Calm art gallery vibe way out by the train tracks in North Portland. My dad was at the show and he liked it. The owner of the gallery gave me a portable reel to reel that I love dearly. --------------------------------------
060)
01.24.07 Argumentix + Soup Purse collab, w/ Mattress (PDX) After spending much of the day practicing and recording our live set had some technical problems that the audience was kind enough to not notice but when my sequencer reset twice, I just lost momentum and screwed the pooch, as they say. Show was in a tent behind Acme and we got many free drinks and dinner too so the show ruled. ---------------------------------------
059)
01.19.07 Argumentix guest in Kitty Midwife (PDX), w/ blowupnihilist (Vancouver, WA), Technicolor Yawn (PDX), Traces (PDX), Red Orchestra (PDX), Goiyo (PDX), Qkcofse (PDX) A heavy and emotionally draining performance experience with my ex. All tape loops, no vocals. Felt empty and very alone afterwards but sold some CDRs so that ruled. ---------------------------------------
058)
01.19.07 Argumentix guest in Your Drugs My Money (LA) The first of two performance experiences in one day. Played with my friends on the radio for about an hour. Some of our more sparse moments sound amazing. Probably part of the recording will come out at some point. ---------------------------------------
057)
01.17.06 Argumentix + Kitty Midwife + Your Drugs My Money (LA) collab, w/ Acre (PDX), The Monolators (LA) Cold improvising with a six piece leaves a lot of room for disaster but we pulled it off well. Was one of the more FUN performance experiences I've had in a while where I felt less angry. I get pissed when I play a lot of the time. Supposedly someone was wielding a baseball bat while we were playing because we seemed too out of control. Weird. I was surprised by how much I liked The Monolators kinda Britpop style playing. They were really sweet people and it was nice to play with a pop band that could appreciate what we were doing and vice versa. More and more rare these days. --------------------------------------- |
